Baroda Create History In SMAT, Becomes First Team In The World To Score 350 Total In T20 Cricket (Source: X)
History was created in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) as Baroda smashed the highest-ever total in T20 cricket. Playing against Sikkim, Baroda posted 349-5 in 20 overs. Bhanu Pania was on fire and scored a brilliant 134 in 51 balls, including 15 sixes. Every batter who came at the crease made a significant contribution. Shashank Rawat (43) and Abhimanyu Singh (53) added 92 runs in 5 overs for the first wicket. While Bhanu was going all guns blazing at one end, others also chipped in with crucial runs at the other end. Shivalik Sharma scored 55 in 17 balls while V Solanki made 50 in 16 balls. Baroda became the first team to post a 300+ score in SMAT.
The record for the highest total in T20 cricket was previously held by Zimbabwe who made 344-4 against Gambia earlier this year. In 2023, Nepal smashed Mongolia, scoring 314/3 in 20 overs. The Indian cricket team scored 297/6 against Bangladesh in October 2024. 250+ scores have become a norm with evolving cricket. Four of the top five totals in T20 cricket came this year.

Meanwhile, Baroda hit 37 sixes in the innings, which is a record for the most sixes in a T20 innings. The record was previously held by Zimbabwe, who smashed 27 sixes against Gambia. Baroda also equalled the record of most 50+ scores in a T20 inning. Four fifties were hit by Baroda against Sikkim, joint best alongside Zimbabwe, who registered four 50+ scores vs Gambia.
Baroda have been magnificent in the SMAT this year, winning five out of the six matches. They are tied on points with Saurashtra, Gujarat, who are placed first and second.
