Scott Turner, a former professional football player, has transitioned from playing on the field to a public servant and has received national recognition for his work in rebuilding disadvantaged communities. Turner spent years as an exceptional player in the National Football League and then changed his career to become a public servant where he worked to create income opportunities for the economically challenged communities across the country.
This work of his was recognised when on Friday, newly elected President Donald Trump nominated Turner to be Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
This position is essential to move forward in fulfilling the nation’s housing needs, particularly for low- and moderate-income families and ensuring fair housing practices across the nation.
As secretary of HUD, Turner will be responsible for a range of duties, from providing advice on improving access to housing to the president and increasing homeownership for American families. HUD also serves as one of the country’s strongest weapons in combating housing discrimination, helping eliminate inequalities in housing based on race, religion, or other factors. Turner’s leadership will make all the difference in their realization of a greater impact on American communities.
Trump chooses Scott Turner as secretary for Department of Housing and Urban Development
Prior to his appointment, Turner served as the executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council, reporting directly to President Trump during his first term. While in this position, he spearheaded revitalization efforts in distressed communities by stimulating economic growth and encouraging investment. Turner’s leadership was critical for the council’s “unprecedented” work transforming distressed communities into thriving areas that will greatly benefit him as he strides into his new role at HUD.
Though Scott Turner was nominated by the incoming President, his appointment awaits the confirmation of the Senate before assuming the position officially.
