Several have possibilities but top of the list is TRIBAL WISDOM, who made it 2-2 at this track when scoring over C&D last month and was a creditable third behind an improver at Chelmsford last time.
Second choice is Fools Rush In, who had a near miss here last Monday and is a major player if he can repeat that form back up in trip. Six-time course winner Visibility could be a big factor if this sets up for his closing style, while others who could be dangerous are Charlie’s Choice and Vecchio.
This looks a bit trappy, but it might be worth giving another chance to SHOW BIZ KID. He flopped when favourite on stable debut over C&D last month, but that was after a break and he has leading claims if he can bounce back near his best. Wonder was pulled up in his final run last season and returns after 401 days off, but there was plenty of promise in his first two juvenile runs and he’s feared most. Another to keep an eye on is David O’Meara’s well-bred newcomer Steps In Time.
There is not much worthwhile form to go on but BETA READER showed promise with his front-running effort at Southwell 11 days ago and he could take another major step forward on this switch to sprinting. George Boughey’s debutante Naughty Eyes is feared most, although there are several other newcomers who need watching in the market including Sundiata Keita and Sandscreendeliverd.
Preference is for MY GENGHIS, who won over C&D and at Brighton before a creditable second in his hat-trick bid here 18 days ago. He still looks on a workable mark and is a big player again on this step back up in trip. Most of the others come with risks attached, but Araifjan went close over C&D on his penultimate run and could be the main danger if he can get back near that level.
Most of the runners have the form to win at this level, particularly Toussarok, who has been lying fallow but drops in grade in an ordinary race and may well turn a corner today. Leaving off the headgear might be a sweetener for Heartrate, while Global Effort has his first C&D run since winning here in June. SISTERS IN THE SKY has been on the go for a long time, but his recent Bath run confirms he’s still in form, and he looks the one to beat.
Off his last winning mark and with Rossa Ryan back on board, HILL STATION is preferred. Last-time scorer Come On John is feared most, ahead of solid Pysanka.
Greatness Awaits has been in good form over hurdles since June and is respected back on the Flat for his new yard. Dark Mystery has been placed in his last two runs and should go well again, while Grand Duchess Olga was runner-up over C&D last time and is still unexposed on Tapeta. However, the most striking contender is the lightly raced 3yo ALTANERA (NAP), who finished well for a cosy win over 1m6f here last month and is open to more progress at this new trip.
An open race in which the vote goes to JUST TYPICAL, who made his breakthrough when justifying favouritism with a front-running win at Newcastle ten days ago. A 4lb rise for that success looks fair and he’s a big player again back up in trip. The other 3yos Harlington and Cut To The Chase are feared most, although Plumette looks interesting after her strong-finishing second over 7f here last Monday. Others to consider are Storm Asset and Fitz Perfectly.
An open race and it looks worth taking a chance on COOPERATION now making his debut for Mick Appleby in an ordinary event. His handicap wins were all over 6f, but they came off significantly higher marks than this, and he did have 5f form earlier in his career. Alafdhal should be involved again but Pearl Abbey can be a bigger danger after an encouraging show here last time out.
