MINNEAPOLIS — The Vikings trail the Colts 7-0 at halftime, and that was, for all intents and purposes, a disaster of a half. Quarterback Sam Darnold tossed a brutal interception in the red zone. Kicker Will Reichard, who hadn’t missed all season, missed twice, including one from 31 yards. Offensively, nothing felt in rhythm, including the running game; Indianapolis limited Aaron Jones to 29 yards. Until two explosive passes to Justin Jefferson on Minnesota’s final drive, the offense felt entirely too disjointed. Colts defensive tackles Grover Stewart and DeForest Bucker wreaked constant havoc.
The Vikings’ defense held up its end of the bargain, keeping the Colts at 4.6 yards per play. And the score might be 0-0 if not for Stewart’s sack fumble, which was first signaled for an unnecessary roughness penalty. That flag was called back, hence the score.
The Vikings have lost two games in a row, and if this score holds, the wheels will have fully fallen off.
