8 Divine Thoughts (Bet Now: $23.00) is the way I am going in the opener. She took a little while to break the maiden status but she did it in style last time at Cranbourne. Admittedly she beat nothing but she was dominant and had something in hand. Looks the leader here and with control, I think she’ll take running down.
Danger
3 Written In Code (Bet Now: $2.60) is the best horse in the race but she is finding it very hard to win. A month between runs since racing over 1400m at Sandown when wide no cover and just felt the pinch late when fourth. Maps to stalk Divine Thoughts so will get every chance…but does she want to win?
Long Shot
4 Grey Ice (Bet Now: $23.00) creates interest. Queensland mare that comes to Melbourne with Bevan Laming after resuming over 1400m at the Sunny Coast where she just looked in need of the run behind Billionair Baby, who is Saturday class at its best, so the form reads okay and she’s suited up to the mile.

4 Mawallock (Bet Now: $4.80) is back on track I feel and back to a track/distance she likes, I think she can win. She resumed at Hamilton where she had to chase a tearaway leader and being first up, she just couldn’t quite sustain the run. That should toughen her up for this, she’ll press forward and take catching.
Danger
1 Call To Glory (Bet Now: $10.00) won the race mentioned above at Hamilton, producing sustained speed from the front and gave nothing else a look in to win quite impressively and ran time. He’ll be getting tired late but with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.
Long Shot
9 Don’t Russia (Bet Now: $27.00) is a filly on the up and maps to do no work. She chased strongly at Sale last time out but just found one better in Martial Music. Will do no work and for mine, she is right down in the weights and for mine, is a must for exotics.

11 Mornington Pier (Bet Now: $11.00) is finding it hard to win but I think he gets a great chance here. He closed off with real purpose at Sale last time from off the speed but just found one better. He gets right down in the weights, Blinkers and for mine, finds a very winnable race.
Danger
If 1 Verdad (Bet Now: $3.10) brought his best, he’d be $1.10 here. Class wise, he has lengths on this field. But, I think he’s turned it up in a couple of runs this prep where he has looked the winner. On class alone he has to be respected. But you’re brave taking $2.50/thereabouts for him.
Long Shot
7 The Gadget Man (Bet Now: $41.00) is a very interesting runner. Former UK stayer that is now with Chris Waller. His best form is over 2400m and beyond, but 1600m fresh I do like for him and his jumpout work hasn’t been too bad. I’d watch the market and see what it does with him.

There looks to be a stack of speed engaged here so I think it will set up for 2 Immortal Star (Bet Now: $14.00) to launch late. She hasn’t raced since the Atlantic Jewel when outclassed behind Silmarillion but this looks more her level, fast run 1000m, she’ll sit off the tempo and be very strong at the end.
Danger
10 Rich Dottie (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Grahame Begg trained filly that resumes. She had a two run prep when last in work, winning impressively on debut at Caulfield Heath before a down the track effort at Doomben in the Spirit Of Boom. Jumped out well for the return, lands on speed and will be hard to beat.
Long Shot
12 Swifties (Bet Now: $11.00) has a tricky draw to overcome but it was hard not to be impressed by her debut win at Bendigo where she produced sustained speed from the outset and gave nothing else a look in, winning by 5.5L and running solid time. If she can overcome the wide gate, she can threaten.

13 Misterkipchoge (Bet Now: $3.30) is bursting to win and I think he gets his chance. He ran over 2000m last Wednesday at Caulfield and kept finding the line from off the speed but just found one better in Flamin Romans. Gets a big jockey upgrade, genuine tempo, I think he’s clearly the one to beat.
Danger
4 Rise To It (Bet Now: $5.50) is the key threat. He ran third in the race from last Wednesday at Caulfield won by Flamin Romans. He was near the tempo and took the lead soon after straightening, only getting bloused late. He was a few weeks between runs there so with room for improvement, he rates highly.
Long Shot
3 Interlinked (Bet Now: $21.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He ran over the mile at Bendigo last start when off the speed and while he was never threatening, he kept finding the line behind stablemate Sunsource. Hard fit and up in trip, he’s an improver at odds.

To me, I reckon Team Hayes are training 3 Apulia (Bet Now: $6.00) as more of a miler/2000m horse vs a stayer. He should have won the Derby last year but since then, he has done nothing. Been given a good break, he’s jumped out really well for his return, winner at The Valley and maps to stalk the speed. I think he’s here to run really well.
Danger
4 Run Harry Run (Bet Now: $4.40) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He comes through the race at Caulfield won by Jimmysstar when doing work to land on speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite see it through late in the piece. Shinn back on, and if he can get across without spending too many petrol tickets, he’s dangerous.
Long Shot
5 Magnaspin (Bet Now: $5.50) is dangerous here. He comes through the Toorak where he was left flat footed when the sprint went on and couldn’t quite go with them late in the piece behind Antino. Better set up here, winner at the track, his best is good enough to be dangerous.

4 Manzoice (Bet Now: $11.00) is a big price here I feel. He comes through the Bart Cummings where the race shape was totally against him and I am not 100% sure he was happy on the shifty track. Back on a firmer deck, Blinkers off Joao sticking with him, I think he’ll run a ripping race.
Danger
5 Francesco Guardi (Bet Now: $4.00) wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Caulfield Cup so with that in mind, he’s hard to beat here. He ran a beauty in the Turnbull I thought, sticking on really well after getting a suck run in transit. Looked hard to beat in the Geelong Cup but was scratched with this race in mind, a race he won two years ago.
Long Shot
7 Okita Soushi (Bet Now: $11.00) is borderline to get a start on the first Tuesday in November. He found firmer footing and was ridden with intent in the Herbert Power, and he ran a much improved race when second to stablemate Herman Hesse. I think with a bunny to chase now he’s hard fit, he can run a much improved race.

16 Rumours Abound (Bet Now: $4.80) on top for me. Ron Stubbs rarely gets it wrong when he comes to Melbourne and he brings this mare here. She resumes after a run at Sandown on June 19 over 1000m when leading and just feeling the pinch late behind Go To Hollywood. Looks suited to the 955m and has trialled up well for the return.
Danger
10 Fission (Bet Now: $4.50) does tend to save his best for this track/distance so he commands respect. He ran over 1000m at Sandown last time out on Sep 9 where he got back and did make up ground but was never really threatening behind Isthmus. Back to where he races best, maps to stalk the speed, he takes beating.
Long Shot
12 Moon And Back (Bet Now: $20.00) is a knockout hope for Andrew Noblet. She resumes, having not raced since the Flat Knacker on Albury Cup Day where she was down the track behind Sparring. Another that loves the Moonee Valley 955m, jumped out well and will be strong late.
