You’d think the sky was falling in Michigan with their 4-2 record and multiple double-digit losses. Jim Harbaugh left them without a chance to land a transfer portal QB and Sherrone Moore is floundering in his first season as head coach; something he hadn’t been officially named until after the season started.
But Ann Arbor is still home to an NFL factory. Wolverines fans need not think the winningest team in college football history is in any danger of losing ground with recruits. The most important thing a high school kid looks for, a path to the pros, can still be found in Michigan.
Sporting News’s Vinnie Iyer projects three Wolverines to go in the top 10 of the 2025 NFL draft.
Iyer sees CB Will Johnson’s shutdown abilities to translate to the next level and projects the Los Angeles Rams to draft him at No. 4.
“The Rams have been atrocious at cornerback this season, well removed from having the prime-career services of Jalen Ramsey,” Iyer prefaced before saying, “Johnson has great size for an active, on-ball playmaker whose coverage skills can transcend to a shutdown level.”
DT Mason Graham went next at No. 5 in Iyer’s mock draft to the Jaguars. Iyer sees a specific fit for Graham next to Travon Walker and Josh Hines-Allen.
“The Jaguars have Travon Walker and Josh Hines-Allen to disrupt from the edge, but they need to clean up the inside with a solid run stopper and flashy pass rusher of Graham’s dominant ilk,” Iyer wrote.
Finally, fellow DT Kenneth Grant was labeled a potential sack machine for the Arizona Cardinals at No. 10.
“The Cardinals have issues in pass rush and coverage, but they are extremely weak for Jonathan Gannon on the interior, too,” Iyer prefaced before saying, “Arizona also is bad against the run, and Grant can give them a disruptive nose who can also rack up sacks.”
Michigan’s defense is its strong suit while it’s offense is problematic. That’s Moore’s problem to figure out, but at least Big Blue can still show proof of concept to defensive recruits.
The sky isn’t falling for Michigan after all. Deep breaths, Wolverines fans.
