Back Me
I really like 9 Palace Green (Bet Now: $5.50) here. He has been kept on ice since contesting the Golden Gate at Royal Ascot where he pretty much went around for a barrier trial, getting badly held up in the straight when seemingly having plenty to offer. If he gets room to move this time around, he’ll take beating.
Danger
4 Midnight Gun (Bet Now: $5.00) is flying and commands respect. He has won two on the bounce, the latest at Newmarket when near the speed and trucking before being clicked up and he found under pressure to fend them off and win, proving quite strong to the line. Harder here, but he should measure up.
Long Shot
2 Arabic Legend (Bet Now: $15.00) comes through a mile race at Newmarket where he got back in the run and tracked up nicely but when asked for the effort, the wheels were spinning on the shifty surface so forgive the run. Firmer deck this time around and up in trip, I think he can run a much improved race.
Back Me
7 The Strikin Viking (Bet Now: $2.15) is the straight bat play. He ran in the Railway at Curragh when near the speed throughout and he tried his guts out but he was nabbed late near the peg by Henri Matisse. Done nothing wrong in a two start career and for mine, is clearly the one to beat if he holds his form.
Danger
9 Tropical Storm (Bet Now: $5.00) is the key threat. He has been kept on ice since contesting the Norfolk at Royal Ascot. He tracked the speed before angling for clear air and loomed to win but couldn’t quite finish it off when second. I think with a better run in transit, perhaps a more patient steer, he takes beating.
Long Shot
4 Black Forza (Bet Now: $11.00) looks to be heading in thee right direction. He comes here off a maiden win at Fairyhouse but the win was sharp, sitting near the speed and moved with purpose before being clicked up and he showed nice change up speed to win well. Harder here, but think he runs well.
Back Me
1 Jan Brueghel (Bet Now: $1.85) looks one of the better bets of the entire Carnival. Aidan O’Brien trained three year old that is unbeaten in two runs, the latest at Curragh where he looked gone at the top of the straight but he ran through the pain barrier and surged late for a very impressive win. He looks destined for better races and will eat up 2400m. Good luck beating him I say.
Danger
5 Sayedaty Sadaty (Bet Now: $4.80) is the interesting runner with the Melbourne Cup in mind. He was purchased by Australian Bloodstock after the Derby where he got back and found the line well enough without threatening behind a star in City Of Troy. I dare say he’ll do no work from the gate, be put to sleep and exposed very late.
Long Shot
4 Meydaan (Bet Now: $6.50) has been kept on ice for Team Crisford after racing in the Queens Vase when getting a suck run in transit and loomed to be some sort of threat but for mine, he just didn’t run the 2800m out behind Illinois. Back to 2400m with fresh legs, he’s dangerous for sure.
Back Me
10 Sparkling Plenty (Bet Now: $4.00) is a ripping filly from France and I am confident she can measure up against these. She comes through the French Oaks at Chantilly where she showed a lovely turn of foot from off the speed, letting down with purpose late to win well. I don’t feel this is an overly deep Group l so I’ll take a chance on this filly with the different form.
Danger
8 Opera Singer (Bet Now: $3.00) is a slight query at 2000m but she brings an element of class. She has been kept on ice since Royal Ascot when contesting the Coronation. She seemed to get every chance from near the speed and looked the winner but couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Forta Portuna. If the trip is fine, she’s hard to beat.
Long Shot
9 See The Fire (Bet Now: $14.00) will welcome the drop in depth after contesting the Eclipse at Sandown where she tracked the speed but lacked a turn of foot to go with them late in the piece when a safely held fourth to a star in City Of Troy. Back to Mares grade, she can an improved race at odds.
Back Me
1 El Burhan (Bet Now: $5.00) is one of the better bets on the card. He has won two on the bounce, bolting up at Yarmouth two back before repeating the dose and then some with an arrogant display at Beverley where he tracked the leader before angling clear and he went through his gears like a nice horse to win well. Proven weight carrier, he looks the one.
Danger
5 Brighton Boy (Bet Now: $6.00) is getting better with racing and rates highly. He was working up to a win and that win came at Chester last time out, leading throughout and he got better as the race went on, drawing clear late in the piece. He’ll press forward and take running down.
Long Shot
4 King Of Angels (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Hugo Palmer trained galloper that comes here off the back of a maiden win at Doncaster where he led throughout and moved quite well before being clicked up and drew clear late to win and win well. He loved the rise to 1400m so keen to see how he goes.
Back Me
6 Kendall Roy (Bet Now: $5.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. This guy was a strong winner at this trip last time at Cork when on speed and moving quite well before being clicked up and he showed nice change up speed, proving strong to the line. He’s a winner, short course specialist and finds Ryan Moore.
Danger
4 Shagraan (Bet Now: $6.00) looks suited back to 1000m. He ran over 1200m at Doncaster where he found the outside fence and on speed. He tried hard and gave a sight but 1200m found him out, tiring late to finish fourth. Like him back to 1000m and hard fit, he commands respect.
Long Shot
8 Dorney Lake (Bet Now: $9.50) is another that is suited to 1000m. He ran over 1200m at Newmarket last time out where he tracked the speed and presented to be a threat 400m out but like Shagraan, 1200m was just a bridge too far, feeling the pinch late in the piece. Back to 1000m, he can run an improved race.
Back Me
5 Dreamy (Bet Now: $2.50) looks the winner, purely on breeding and the early market push. This girl is beautifully bred by American Pharoah out of Tapestry, making this girl a relation to some top class horses, so there is good expectation this girl will be a beauty and the early market push says yes. Have to be with her.
Danger
4 Bouvier (Bet Now: $5.00) looks the pick of the raced brigade. This girl debuted over this trip at Doncaster when near the speed towards the outside fence. She was one of the first off the bit but she ran through the pain barrier and kept finding the line in a pretty good effort behind when third. Better for the run under the belt, she appeals.
Long Shot
7 Ghaiyya (Bet Now: $12.00) is another well bred filly in this race that is on debut. This girl is related to a couple of very strong stayers so you’d think in time that this girl will be better once she gets to 2000m+, but overall, this race isn’t overly strong to my eye and a couple of experts from the UK are hinting she goes good, so watch the market.
Back Me
18 Great Chieftain (Bet Now: $17.00) for me in the get out. This guy ran over the mile at Windsor last time out where he was one of the first off the bit but credit to him, he ran through the pain barrier and surged hard late just missing out on the win when a narrow second. He’s racing in a purple patch and should take beating.
Danger
9 Treasure Time (Bet Now: $5.00) will land on speed and take running down. He attempted to lead throughout at Newmarket last time out and gave a strong sight from the front but he couldn’t quite see it through and was nabbed near the peg. If he leads and gets a cheap furlong, he’ll be hard to get past.
Long Shot
6 Ebt’s Guard (Bet Now: $12.00) is dangerous. He ran over the mile at Ascot last start when getting the suck run in behind the speed before angling clear and had to check off heels but really liked his effort in defeat when third. Maps to get a suck run again and should be strong at the end.
BEST BET: Race Three Number 1 Jan Brueghel
NEXT BEST: Race Five Number 1 El Burhan
LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 18 Great Chieftain
