Class of 2025 recruit Kiyan Anthony, son of Syracuse Orange legend Carmelo Anthony, narrowed his list of college basketball destinations to six, including Syracuse along with Auburn, Florida State, Ohio State, USC and Rutgers.
Anthony, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, is ranked as high as No. 27 in the class of 2025 (On3). The consensus top-50 recruit plans to announce his college destination this fall.
Syracuse was the first power four program to offer Anthony back in November 2022. Orange assistant coach Brenden Straughn is the lead recruiter on Anthony. In a recent interview with Zagsblog, Anthony highlighted Adrian Autry and his staff’s effort to pursue him not just as a legacy recruit but for his own merit and talent on the court.
“I just like the atmosphere, you know, obviously my dad went there 20 something years ago, so I just like the atmosphere,” Anthony said. “I like the family environment. The coaches, I feel like they’re recruiting me for myself, and not just because of my father. That’s what I like. I just feel like they’re rebuilding, and they’re looking to get a winning team. I feel like I can help them do that if I was to go there.”
Anthony took an official visit to the Syracuse program in October 2023 and has expressed interesting in taking another visit to the Syracuse campus, among the other schools on his list. He also visited Florida State last fall. Anthony plays high school basketball for Long Island Lutheran (New York) while running with his father’s namesake, Team Melo, in AAU.
Syracuse is the only program to have a top 25 commitment in the class of 2025 in Sadiq White. In another recent interview with zagsblog.com, White acknowledged his efforts to coax Anthony toward an SU commitment.
