One of the top overall prospects in the 2025 NCAA Basketball recruiting class is Meleek Thomas, a consensus 5-star guard who is ranked in the top-10 overall per every major recruiting ranking. He’s a 6’3 combo guard who can do just about everything at a high level on both ends of the court, mostly known for his natural scoring ability.
Thomas projects as a likely “one and done” future NBA prospect who has been highly coveted on the trail for the last year or so. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the 5-star guard now plays for Overtime Elite for his senior year of high school. That’s not the only change for Thomas, as his current group of contenders is very different from the previous list of 12 options.
Notable programs such as Duke, Kentucky, Villanova, and Miami have been left out, while other teams have seemingly entered the conversation for Thomas’ services. Do any of them stand out as ideal potential fits? Here’s an updated look.
Dating back to his days at Buffalo, current Alabama HC Nate Oats has created a great track record of developing guards into conference stars and future NBA pros. Senior guard Mark Sears is going to be a preseason All-American and he’ll be replaced after next season. The team does have Auburn transfer Aden Holloway and top-40 freshman guard Derrion Reid joining them and there’s a chance they could become lead guards in their own right. But it makes sense that the Tide would be appealing for Thomas, who could be a great replacement for Sears in the backcourt.
