ATLANTA – The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll on Wednesday, with the Western Michigan women’s basketball team receiving a special mention for the 2023-24 academic year.
“The WBCA is pleased to recognize those women’s basketball programs that have committed themselves to excellence on the court and in the classroom,” said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. “The 112 teams we honor this year strive to achieve all-around success and we commend their efforts. Congratulations!”
The Broncos have seen an abundance of athletic and academic success for the 2023-24 year, resulting in the squad earning various individual and group accolades. This past year, WMU showcased the third-highest team GPA in the Mid-American Conference with a group average of 3.522. The Brown and Gold also featured four student-athletes on both the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District (Gabi Saxman, Kaiden Glenn, Artemis Kouki, and Hannah Spitzley) and Academic All-MAC (Gabi Saxman, Megan Wagner, Artemis Kouki, and Hannah Spitzley) teams for their performances on the field and in the classroom. Additionally, Spitzley was named to the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) Academic-Athletic Honor Team for the 2023-24 athletic year for her academic excellence and athletic success.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA, and two-year college women’s basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2023-24 season is the 29th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
