Fiji Airways, a member of Oneworld Connect since 2018, is expected to complete its transition to full Oneworld membership by mid-2025. The addition of Fiji Airways is expected to strengthen Oneworld’s position as the premier airline alliance for international travelers, according to Oneworld Chief Executive Nat Pieper.
Fiji Airways Chief Executive Andre Viljoen expressed his goal of achieving full Oneworld membership, which he believes will enhance the airline’s global reach and connectivity. The alliance is also preparing to induct Oman Air as its newest member this year, marking its third Middle Eastern member carrier.
Oneworld has expanded its membership in recent years, with Alaska Airlines joining in 2021 and Royal Air Maroc becoming its first African member in 2020.
The alliance is focused on quality over quantity, with Pieper stating that they prioritize working closely with existing members to fill network gaps rather than simply adding new carriers.
While Oneworld is open to discussing membership with other airlines, Pieper emphasised that the alliance is focused on maintaining high standards for its members. He expressed a preference for working closely with existing members to enhance their offerings rather than simply expanding the alliance’s size.
