Gamerji Expands Esports Platform to Southeast Asia, Launches in Philippines and Indonesia
Key Highlights
New Delhi: Gamerji, a home-grown esports platform, has announced its expansion into the Southeast Asian market, specifically targeting the Philippines and Indonesia. This move comes after the company received a tremendous response from its user base in India and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Ahmedabad-headquartered Gamerji has gone live with eight game titles in these new markets, including popular games like PUBG Mobile, Free Fire, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), Valorant, Clash Royale, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO), Rocket League, and FIFA.
Gamerji, founded in 2019 by gaming expert and serial entrepreneur Soham Thacker, aims to bridge the gap between amateur and professional gamers by providing a credible platform to hone their skills. The platform allows gamers to compete, host matches, communicate, and get recognized for their gaming abilities.
Thacker explains, “As esports continues its exponential growth, gaining recognition globally from esteemed Olympic councils to governments, educational institutions, brands, and industries, Gamerji is committed to enhancing its presence in SEA markets which have been witnessing the soaring popularity of esports. Our aim is to offer a comprehensive experience, where gamers can sharpen their skills through daily tournaments and enjoy a safe, fair, and exhilarating gaming environment, with rewards awaiting them.”
Southeast Asia has emerged as a significant hub for esports, driven by advancements in gaming hardware, robust internet infrastructure, and cutting-edge streaming technology. This region is experiencing rapid growth in the gaming industry, making it a prime target for Gamerji’s expansion.
According to Statista Research, the gaming industry in Southeast Asia is anticipated to reach USD 13.12 million (INR 1088 crores) in 2024, with a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 8.05% in the games segment. By 2028, the market volume is forecasted to soar to USD 17.88 million (INR 1483 crores). Currently, user penetration stands at 40%, but it’s expected to skyrocket to 338.2 million people by 2028, marking a substantial 47% increase. The Southeast Asia esports market is poised to showcase a CAGR of 8.20% from 2024 to 2032.
Gamerji’s strategy involves building a large user base in India and expanding to cross-border tournaments in other regions. The company has a user base of 11.7 million in India and MENA, organizing over 500 daily tournaments across 22 titles. With its launch in Southeast Asia, Gamerji plans to add 1 million users from the region over the next 12 months.
New users joining Gamerji will receive virtual currency and a free 3-day subscription as a welcome offer. The platform can be accessed via its website and is available on Android and iOS stores.
Since its inception, Gamerji has seen exponential growth. Last year, the company raised USD 3 million (INR 24.9 crores) in Pre-Series A funding and began its international expansion by launching operations in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Gamerji now aims to cross 20 million registered users in the next 12 months.
