JAMESTOWN – The game was decided by one goal half way through the first half of play. Minot High senior Emerson Perrin scored on a penalty kick at the 20th minute for the 1-0 win. The game was moved indoors due to weather.
The match between Western Dakota Association (WDA) teams Minot High (13-0-0 WDA games) and Jamestown (10-1-2 WDA games) pitted the top team in the standings, the Majettes and the second team in the standings, the Blue Jays.
The match also featured the top two goalies in the WDA with Minot High freshman Kinsli Gilmore, perfect in shutouts and Jamestown senior Olivia Sorlie, who has only allowed three goals on the season. Gilmore had two saves in the game while Sorlie had three saves. There were only five shots on goal by both teams during the match.
The statistical story of the two teams going into the match was offense for the Majettes versus defense for the Blue Jays. Jamestown senior Reese Christ and freshman Briella Martin were leading the team with seven goals and seven points along with six goals and ten points respectively for the WDA season. Minot High had six players with higher levels of scoring statistics than the Jamestown leading pair going into the game.
Minot High will travel to Bismarck Century on Tuesday, May 21, for the final regular season away game.
The Majettes will have the chance to win a fourth state championship in four years at home. The 2024 NDHSAA Girls Soccer State Tournament will be held at Duane Carlson Stadium from May 30 to June 1 in Minot.
