Ten years after Rory McIlroy hoisted the PGA Championship trophy at Valhalla Golf Club, the tournament has returned to Louisville.
McIlroy also is back and will compete against the world’s top golfers this weekend. The field features 16 former PGA Championship winners including Brooks Koepka, who has won three of the last six PGA Championships, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. John Daly earned the Wanamaker Trophy in 1991.
Here’s a look at some PGA Championship picks, predictions and latest odds to win in 2024.
PGA Championship predictions, picks
Top PGA Championship pick 2024
Scottie Scheffler, 27, won four tournaments earlier this season: the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players Championship, the Masters and the Heritage. He also recently became a father after his wife, Meredith, gave birth to their son.
Given Scheffler’s hot streak, he’s the favorite to win the PGA Championship. He is ranked No. 1 in the world and leads PGA players in scoring average (68.743), birdie average (5.38), average total strokes gained (2.851), average strokes gained approaching the green (1.398) and greens in regulation percentage (74.76%).
Best non-Scheffler PGA Championship pick
Can the magic of McIlroy’s last PGA win at Valhalla return a decade later?
McIlroy has the second-best odds of winning the PGA Championship behind Scheffler. He’s coming off Sunday’s Wells Fargo Championship title. His 6-under-par 65 performance in the final round gave him a five-stroke victory over Xander Schauffele.
McIlroy has 26 PGA Tour victories, 10 runner-up finishes and 76 top-five placings in 248 events played.
Best PGA Championship 2024 dark horse pick
At +4000, Justin Thomas will be one to watch as he competes in his hometown. The St. Xavier High School graduate is due for another PGA Tour victory. In 2024, Thomas has three top-10 finishes in 10 events played. He missed the cut at the Masters but tied for fifth at the Heritage and tied for 21st at the Wells Fargo Championship. He has two PGA Championships: 2022 and 2017.
