400m runner Deepanshi fails dope test, suspended by NADA | More sports News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has taken action against Deepanshi, India’s leading female 400m athlete, for failing a dope test during the recently concluded National Inter-State Championships, PTI reported.
The 21-year-old sprinter, who secured a silver medal in the event, has been suspended as a result of the violation.
During the women’s 400m final in Panchkula on Friday, Deepanshi recorded a time of 52.01 seconds, finishing behind Kiran Pahal, who clocked 50.92 seconds.The dope sample, collected on June 27 during either the heat race or semifinal, was found to contain anabolic steroids, leading to Deepanshi’s suspension.
This incident marks the first doping case to emerge from the National Inter-State Championships, which took place from June 27 to June 30.
The event held significant importance as it served as the final qualifying competition for athletes aiming to participate in the upcoming Paris Olympics. It is worth noting that Deepanshi is not a part of the National training camp.
