The Pinnacles at Ascot for 2024 kicks off this Saturday, headlined by the best race WA has to offer, the Railway Stakes (1600m). Weather is fine, track is soft (5) and the rail is out five metres for the entire circuit.

Back Me
Immediately after his defeat three weeks ago, I thought 9 Pull The Trigger (Bet Now: $9.50) would take a power of beating back to 1400m and here he is at 1400m. That defeat came over 1600m where he looked the winner when presented but 1600m just found him out and he felt the pinch late. Back to 1400m, he’ll be hard to beat.
Danger
4 Profit Pocket (Bet Now: $7.00) looks to have returned pretty well and commands respect as a key chance. She resumed over this track/distance five weeks ago when on speed and credit to her, she found under pressure to fend them off and win in a good effort. Unbeaten at the track/distance and with a good racing style, rates highly.
Long Shot
1 King Cartel (Bet Now: $6.00) will land on the bunny and take running down, like he did when resuming here two weeks back, trying hard but just couldn’t quite finish the job when second to Climb On Top. Good racing style and with upside/improvement, he rates highly.

7 Affluential (Bet Now: $7.50) is ready to go and I think a win here will stamp him, for me anyway, as #1 seed for the Perth Cup. He should have won here two weeks ago but was given a very sleepy ride by Pike in terms of waiting forever to pushing the button until it was too late. Hard fit, Zahra on, I think good luck beating him.
Danger
4 Royal Toronado (Bet Now: $3.30) is racing like a rise in trip will suit for Team Williams after a win over 1800m here last time out, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive performance. Racing like 2100m suits and despite the tricky gate, he commands respect.
Long Shot
5 Hechard (Bet Now: $41.00) comes to town in winning form after winning the York Cup last time out. He was aided by some ordinary rides in front of him, he sat off the speed and finished best to win. 2100m is the query…not sure he wins but can run top four.

9 Talkanco (Bet Now: $1.75) picks herself I feel. Team Pearce trained filly that debuted over this track/distance two weeks ago where she gave them a start, a beating, and was quite dynamic the way she put them away late in the piece. She’s been the most impressive juvenile so far this season in WA so I have to be in her corner.
Danger
14 Yes Queen (Bet Now: $4.20) is the big watch here. Dion Luciani trained filly that is 2/2 at the trials to get ready for start one. Both trials have come over 400m, and while they are inconclusive at times, she has looked very sharp from what I’ve seen and that Pike is booked tells me there is intent.
Long Shot
4 Buckled (Bet Now: $5.00) is a son of Hellbent on debut for Simon Miller off the back of a trial win at Belmont last week where he won narrowly but seemed to move well enough and ran decent time. Stable can get them ready fresh/on debut so watch the market.

7 Keshi Boom (Bet Now: $2.40) is the way I am leaning but not a whole lot of confidence here. This mare has been solid in two runs back from a spell, the latest being two weeks ago over this track/distance where she seemingly had every chance but just couldn’t quite get there when third to Yarralea. Hard fit, ideal map…D-Day.
Danger
2 Bruce Almighty (Bet Now: $21.00) should appreciate a rise to 1400m after resuming over 1200m here a fortnight back when near the speed throughout and he tried hard but being first up, condition just gave way late when third to Hell I Am. Fitter and up in trip, good racing style, takes running down.
Long Shot
1 Sisu Warrior (Bet Now: $31.00) is a son of Gold Standard that resumes for Team Williams. This guy is first up, having not raced since May 11 over this track/distance when back and making up ground late in the piece behind Zephyra. He can sprint well fresh and has trialled up nicely for the return.

2 Be Optimistic (Bet Now: $19.00) looks on track for the Perth Cup and gets Nash aboard. She ran in the Luckygray two weeks ago where she got back to near last in the run and while she was never a winning threat, she kept finding the line and was solid enough in defeat. Up in trip, getting towards peak fitness and has class.
Danger
1 Starry Heights (Bet Now: $4.80) has to be given another look. The market drift said he had three legs when contesting the Luckygray a fortnight back and it was proven correct as he got off speed and was very plain late in the piece. Better for the run, and he has credits in the bank to be given another chance.
Long Shot
9 Flower In The Wind (Bet Now: $31.00) is on the seven day back up after racing over the mile here last Saturday where she got off the speed and was just fair late in the piece behind Watch Me Rock. She is a proven track/distance performer, gets a kind map and has good upside.

11 Yonga Lass (Bet Now: $2.30) would just about be top pick for me in the Railway if she gets a run here but if not, she’s a good thing here. She ran last Saturday in the Peters where it was a barrier trial and given she was back near last in the run, she was set a task and in another stride, she wins and secures a Railway start. Instead, she ran a narrow second. She’s back on track and all things equal, should be winning.
Danger
7 Aztec Ruler (Bet Now: $7.50) is another that comes through the Peters from last Saturday too. He got into a decent spot off the slow speed and presented to win when with clear air but had to settle for a close up fourth. He’s racing well and maps ideally once again.
Long Shot
1 Valour Road… (Bet Now: $4.20) is he gone? I think we’ll get the proper guide here. He ran in the Lee Steere two weeks back when on speed and tried hard but just lacked the finale to go with them late in the piece behind Casino Seventeen. Maps perfect on speed and gets M Zahra. Last chance territory surely.

I am really surprised that 14 Storyville (Bet Now: $3.90) isn’t just about favourite. Her win in the Champion Fillies last Saturday was incredible, giving them a start, a beating, and ran outstanding late splits relative to the race and meeting. Drawn out, she’ll get clear air, room to move, wind up…gee I think she’s a great gamble.
Danger
3 September Born… (Bet Now: $2.60) surely the jury is out on him at a strong mile? He is the most talented male in the race IMO but is he too brilliant for the mile. Just a win I thought in the Fairetha but to be fair, he was wide throughout. He gets a gate to do no work to get every chance to run 1600m. He can win, but for mine, he’s far too short.
Long Shot
9 The Merryman (Bet Now: $27.00) is the watch horse. He finished down the track in the Fairetha when keen in the run and had nothing left for the finale behind September Born. He gets the Ear Muffs on and he looked to trial up really well at Lark Hill on Monday so keen to see how he goes.

4 Democracy Manifest (Bet Now: $15.00) has the awful gate to contend with, the injury concern, but provided is all sweet re the lameness, then he is the gamble here. Clear intent from Waller with this horse being his sole rep for The Pinnacles and his runs in Sydney this prep have been great. He’ll love a fast run mile, good cover, a drag into the race and launch late.
Danger
5 Light Infantry Man (Bet Now: $3.80) is the one to beat with the form and map. He was a dominant winner at Flemington on Oaks Day, ridden a peach by J Mac and he was far too good for them. He maps perfect to stalk the speed and J Mac makes the trip from Hong Kong to steer.
Long Shot
3 Casino Seventeen (Bet Now: $19.00) was a dynamic winner of the Lee Steere two weeks back, giving them a start and a beating under a 12/10 from Pike, slicing his way through the field late to score. The fast run mile should be ideal and Pike/Williams have a fab record in this race.

2 Wubin Gold (Bet Now: $3.30) looks to be humming for Colin Webster and should take beating after a dominant track/distance win three weeks ago, letting down with very sharp change up speed and was impressive the way she put them away. Good test here, but maps to get a beaut run and with that change up speed, she’s going to be hard to beat again.
Danger
3 Keep Attacking (Bet Now: $5.00) comes here with fresh legs for Team Williams, having not raced since Oct 12 at this track/distance where he got back off the run and worked home with real purpose late when second to Cosmic Crusader. Likely spots them a start again but should be strong at the end.
Long Shot
5 Forever Dreaming (Bet Now: $61.00) is a stablemate of Wubin Gold that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since July 27 at Belmont when struggling on wet ground and was never really a factor. She is a mare who can sprint well fresh, has trialled well and does like Ascot.
