Check out some of these top wide receivers go toe to toe at the NFL Combine today!
Oct 19, 2024; Tucson, Arizona, USA; Arizona Wildcats wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan (4) runs back into the locker room at the end of the fourth quarter against the Colorado Buffaloes at Arizona Stadium.
We are nearly reaching the end of the week-long NFL Scouting Combine for 2025 and it has been a treat to watch every one in action up to now. The physical workouts at the Combine were kicked off by the defensive linemen and the linebackers a couple of days ago, and yesterday we witnessed the defensive backs and the tight ends.
Today, the stage is set for the wideouts to take over and entertain us all, especially during their 40-yard dash session. Will there be another Xavier Worthy in this draft or will we see a new 40 record? We will find out the answers to all our questions soon enough, but for now let us take a look at some of those wideouts who have garnered the most attention to this point of the Combine.
The 2025 wide receiver class is not considered as strong as some of the previous years’ draft classes. There is no receiver that has clearly staked his claim as the number one in the class. Having said that, here are a few to keep an eye on during the on-field drills.
Tetairoa McMillan is generally regarded as the number one wide receiver in this draft class, especially if Travis Hunter is entering as a defensive back. McMillan is projected to be a top 20 draft pick if not a top 10.
McMillan played his college football for the Arizona Wildcats football team where he put up back-to-back 1,300 plus receiving yard seasons in 2023 and 2024. He earned First-team All-Big 12, and Consensus All-American honors in 2024.
Standing 6’ 5’’ and weighing 230 pounds, the former Wildcat has good size for an out and out X receiver. However, McMillan provides additional value with his ability to play the X, Z or even the slot. He is able to adjust his route according to the coverage and has an extensive route tree.
Luther Burden III is another wide receiver who is projected to be selected in the first round of the draft. The junior who played three years for the Missouri Tigers has earned First-team All-SEC honors in 2023 and 2024. His best year was his sophomore season when he caught 88 receptions for 1,212 yards, including 9 touchdowns.
Burden possesses great initial acceleration and is able to maintain his speed enabling him to gain separation. The Missouri native is athletic and has natural playmaking skills evident with his ability to break tackles and big runs after catches.

As a receiver, Matthew Golden is considered to be one of the most well-rounded prospects in this year’s draft class. He may not be as elite as some of the others, but he has good control over his tempo and has a knack of creating separation at breakpoints. He can make the big plays with his speed and sharp route running skills. Moreover, Golden plays all X, slot, and Z positions adding more value to his draft stock.
Yet another receiver who could be drafted in the first round, Egbuka is one of the more reliable players. A senior out of Ohio State, the 22-year-old is a CFP national champion with the Buckeyes in 2024. Egbuka is primarily a slot receiver who has good size, and is fluid while changing direction. His ball tracking ability is one of his plus points along with being a natural route runner.
Tre Harris is a senior out of Ole Miss who earned First-team All-SEC honors in 2024. He put together 3 consistently good seasons from 2022 to 2024. Harris played the first three years of college football at Louisiana Tech before transferring to Mississippi in 2023. His size fits the role of outside receiver well, and he has vastly improved his skills as a pass catcher since returning to school in 2024.

It seems that most of the top prospects in this position will be performing the on-field drills. The one exception to this is former Colorado Buffalo star Travis Hunter who will not be taking the field today as he entered the Combine as a defensive back rather than a wideout.
