From June 17 to August 9, GoMatadors.com will present the top CSUN Moments from the 2023-24 sports season. Today, we celebrate the Matador women’s water polo team’s Dorottya Telek making CSUN history by breaking the school’s all-time career goals record.
Telek finished the 2024 season with a Big-West leading 94 goals, marking the third consecutive season where she led the Big West in goals, as she pushed her career tally to 272. She totaled 124 points on the season to go with 32 steals, 30 assists, 13 field blocks and 110 drawn exclusions.
A native of Budapest, Hungary, Telek collected her third-straight All-America Honorable Mention award and her second All-Big West First Team honor. Along with teammate Anna Pal, Telek is just one-of-six Matadors to ever receive three All-America awards. Telek would also earn her fourth Big West Player of the Week award this season, breaking the CSUN record in that category.
In addition to her surpassing the all-time career goals record this year, Telek set a new single-game record with nine goals in both the Azusa Pacific game and earlier in the season against California Baptist on Jan. 20. In all, Telek hit the back of the net in 29 of 30 matches and scored multiple times in 21 contests.
Telek’s work in the pool helped CSUN post an 18-15 record overall, the team’s most wins since the 2014 season. The Matadors also finished the season ranked 16th in the nation, which is the highest ranking the program has reached in nine seasons.
