Good race to start the meeting. But, I am with 2 Stormy Grove (Bet Now: $4.80). Not sure he beat much on debut at Geelong but the way he gave them a start and a beating was just something else, running good overall time in the process too. Team Payne have a very good batch of three year olds and this guy is one of them. Keen to see how he goes at this level.

5 Zorro’s Flight (Bet Now: $11.00) is a horse with talent. Team Payne trained gelding that did more than enough on debut over 1100m at Geelong before going to this trip at Sale where he led throughout and was quite strong to the line in winning. Good racing style and stable is flying at present.

Long Shot

4 Mr Markle (Bet Now: $8.50) should appreciate getting to 1400m. He is another for Team Payne and he does have talent. He won his maiden over 1114m at Moe last time out, giving them a start and a beating, and he really knuckled down with purpose late to win and win well. Racing like further suits, he appeals.

12 Makamae (Bet Now: $7.00) is a key chance for Price/Kent. She won her maiden last time out at Seymour over this trip and the way she won was impressive. She made a sustained run after angling clear early and was impressive in the run to the line. Has that 2000m run under the belt, which holds her in good stead.

10 Colour Our World (Bet Now: $5.00) is racing like she will appreciate a rise in trip after racing over the mile on Boxing Day at Caulfield Heath. She got back in a slowly run race and kept finding the line in defeat behind Centennial Park. Hopefully with a more genuine tempo here, 2000m should be fine and is hard to beat.

Long Shot

8 Papal Army (Bet Now: $11.00) will be one of the strongest late if this becomes a slog. He has no turn of foot but will just stay all day, as seen at Stony Creek last start where he was very one paced in the straight when second. Not sure he is good enough to win but he can finish top four without surprising.

3 Seeking Stardom (Bet Now: $3.90) is flying for Andrew Gluyas and has earned a crack at Melbourne after being dominant in SA, the latest win at Murray Bridge where she has to knuckle down with purpose late but she did. Harder here but hard to knock the way she is racing.

1 Smokin Princess (Bet Now: $3.80) appeals as one of the leading contenders. Team Payne trained mare that is three weeks between runs since racing at Pakenham where she got a fair way out of her ground but I really liked the way she finished the race off in defeat behind Elphinstone. Has class on her side and should take beating.

Long Shot

6 Harmonious Senora (Bet Now: $19.00) should appreciate a rise in trip. Her last two runs have come over 1500m, the latest being here when off the speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat. Getting towards peak fitness and up in trip, she can win.

5 Flamin Romans (Bet Now: $4.40) is the straight bat play. He ran three weeks ago over this trip at Pakenham where he got the right run in transit and presented to win but just found one better in Divus Romulus. Think he only has to hold his form and he should be around the mark.

6 Roaring Engine (Bet Now: $19.00) has to be given another look. Danny O’Brien trained gelding that ran over 3000m at The Valley last time out when wide no cover throughout, which is near suicide over 3000m, so forgive and forget the run behind Glens Top Cat. Has run well at the track/distance previously and with better luck in running, can win for sure.

Long Shot

11 Bitcoin (Bet Now: $11.00) has the engine under the hood ti measure up. He ran two weeks back at The Valley over 3000m where he should have gone close to winning. Just got badly held held up behind tired runners and lost all momentum. Convinced he is flying and is good enough to take this out.

5 New York Lustre (Bet Now: $1.95) looks to have returned in beast mode and is clearly the one to beat. She resumed at Seymour when on speed throughout and she looked to be bolting. Just a matter of pushing the button and once it was, away she went and she gapped them. Only has to hold that form here and she will take a power of beating.

1 Boonie (Bet Now: $5.50) will land on speed and run a bold race, as seen on New Years Day here when leading and giving a bold sight but just couldn’t quite see it through, run down late. Good racing style, hard fit and in form, he appeals as one of the leading contenders in what looks a winnable race.

Long Shot

3 Mr Moppett (Bet Now: $23.00) comes here with fresh legs for the Purcell camp, having not raced since Dec 7 on Ballarat Cup Day when racing over 1100m when wide throughout and just couldn’t get involved when down the track behind Don’t Hope Do. Has run well down the straight previously, not dismissing him.

9 Al Duca (Bet Now: $5.50) looks to have returned really well for Team Freedman and despite rising to Saturday metro grade, he is the one I am siding with. He was a strong winner over 1400m at Cranbourne last time, giving them a start and a beating in a strong performance. Upside to come and up to the mile, he rates highly.

7 La Fracas (Bet Now: $4.80) is a key chance. He resumed with a very strong win on heavy ground on Kilmore Cup Day before going to Bendigo where he got too far back in the run but closed with purpose behind the in form Haraldus. Hard fit now, can settle closer, he’s a key threat.

8 Nana’s Wish (Bet Now: $13.00) hasn’t quite set the world on fire in recent runs but I do think she is quite capable. She sat on speed at Pakenham three weeks ago and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through behind Elphinstone. I think with a more patient steer, she’ll be more effective.

19 New Sovereign (Bet Now: $5.00) will need luck getting a run but if he does, I think he’s quite clearly the one to beat. 2/2 this time in, winning impressively off the speed at Geelong before being ridden with more intent at Seymour and he made a mess of them. Returned in beast mode it appears and is clearly the one for me.

13 Kiko (Bet Now: $8.00) is a slight query at 1400m but she is racing really well at present. She ran over 1200m three weeks ago at Pakenham when chasing strongly from off the speed but was no match for Samangu. If the distance is okay for her, then I say she is one of the leading contenders.

5 He’s Beset (Bet Now: $14.00) is a son of Darci Brahma that resumes for Nick Ryan. This guy is first up, having not raced since Oct 17 at Ballarat when back off the speed and failed to get involved when down the track. He can sprint well fresh and his best is good enough so watch the market.

9 Wonder Boy (Bet Now: $6.50) looks the one if he’s ready to go. He looked a potential Group l horse in the early part of the Spring but just didn’t quite measure up in lead ups and was spelled soon after. Given a break, has jumped out well for the return and with class/quality on his side, I’ll back him in to resume a winner.

5 Pereille (Bet Now: $2.20) is bursting to win…but is he half turning it up? I thought he was all over the winner his past two but has been beaten, the first time at Randwick in the Razor Sharp before a second in the Canterbury Sprint. I do think he’s flying. Just not winning. That can change here.

7 The Prodigal Son (Bet Now: $19.00) is capable of a forward showing at odds. He hasn’t raced since Nov 24 over 1400m at Canberra when down the track behind a good horse, Chorlton Lane. Fresh legs and back to 1200m, previous track/distance winner, he is in with a shout at a likely big price.

5 British Columbia (Bet Now: $13.00) has to be given another look. He ran two weeks back at The Valley where he got quite keen in the run off the speed and that energy spending took away from his finale. His best is more than good enough to take this out so don’t dismiss him.

11 Elphinstone (Bet Now: $8.00) is three weeks between runs since a strong win at Pakenham where she got the right run in transit. Just a matter of pushing the button and once it did, she was strong to the line and impressive. She’s found that winning feeling again, she can go on with it.

3 Prince Of Helena (Bet Now: $12.00) is a beauty for Craig Weeding and is an each way speck for me here. He ran at Wagga Riverside last start in the Ted Ryder Cup where he got back off the speed but tracked up and loomed to win but just couldn’t quite see it through. Usually runs well in town and is very genuine.

$SP.00) is a quirky animal but he has class on his side and looks to be humming. He had a jumpout win at Pakenham when near the speed throughout and wide but was trucking before being clicked up and away he went, proving quite dominant in the run to the line but was given a mini break and his work since has been strong. He goes well fresh and has found a winnable race.

3 Deekay (Bet Now: $7.00) is racing well and hasn’t raced too badly previously at Flemington. He ran over 1200m at Caulfield Heath and kept finding the line in defeat when second to Better Link. Hasn’t won in a little while but I do feel that a win isn’t far away. Could easily come here.

Long Shot

4 Ranting (Bet Now: $46.00) is an interesting runner. He comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since Nov 29 over 1200m at The Valley when back in the run and made up minor headway without threatening behind Zou Sensation. His best is good enough so I say watch the market.
